This year I'm fundraising for my first Sunrise Ascent on Mount Washington. Two of my monoski students from the winter, Matt and Josh, are making the push and I'm looking to support them in the climb. I've spent a lot of time with these two through Adaptive Sports Partners of the North Country (ASPNC) and I've gotten to watch these two go from pretty much never ever skiers to skiers who are shredding the mountain. Both of them have now recieved grants through the Kelly Brush Foundation to be able to have their own monoskis. It's been amazing to watch these two grow, but it's even cooler to see how much they've both fallen in love with skiing.
That's what adaptive sports is for me, and what ASPNC give me the opportunity to do, to pass on my love for sports. We could claim it's just about recreation, but the reality is the effects are so much greater. When you see first hand people gaining confidence in themselves, taking pride in their accomplishments and setting bigger and higher goals, it's impossible to stay away.
