It's official! I will be making a mule of myself again this year, and Aurora is joining Team Soo-Soo for her first major hiking and major fundraising event. A couple dozen of us will assist her old I mean former Montessori school teacher up the 7.6 mile Mount Washington auto road on August 5th. (Aurora successfully completed Team Soo-Soo's 7-mile training hike up Cannon Mountain yesterday.)
Last August, bad weather forced us to reroute to Cannon. This year, we're hoping to see a majestic sunrise on our ascent up Mount Washington. But that's not why we're doing it again. Or for the first time.
Suzy: Riding my bike gives me both a sense of joy and a sense of agency/power as I go about my days. To say it makes me happy to do an event which delivers athletic experiences to people with disabilities is an understatement. Climbing a mountain side-by-side with these athletes, some self-propelled, others assisted by volunteers, is an inspiration worth way more than the couple thousand I raised in 2017. $ubtext: Please help me raise more.
Aurora: I care a lot about Suzie and I am excited about this big challenge.
In addition to raising funds lots of funds, we are raising awareness. If you know any New Englanders with permanent or temporary disabilities who would benefit from a hike, bike, glide, kayak, ski-- experiences routinely described as "life-changing"-- we'd be happy to help you make the connection.
